Language lesson for hotel staff

Korean pop stars forego music for a day to teach

POPULAR Korean pop duo, The CROSS made a brief visit to Berjaya Hotels & Resorts corporate office recently to give a private tutoring session for the hotel's sales and marketing team. The duo, comprising musician/ composer Lee Si Ha and singer Kim Kyung Hyun, taught a team of 11 staff members to learn a few useful phrases in the Korean language.

There were several tongue twisters and not everyone got the pronunciations right when they tried to speak the language for the first time. Some drew laughters when they attempted to pronounce the lines, without rea-lising their mistakes.

“It’s great to be here as it was Kyung Hyun’s dream to become a teacher before we started The CROSS, while my dream was to become a gangster,” joked Lee as he scribbled notes on the board for his ‘students’.

The hotel’s marketing communication director Thang Han Ni said that the purpose of the tutoring session was for their team to pick up a few key phrases in Korean language.

“It will be especially useful when they meet up with clients from the Korean market as we expand our presence and market there,”she said.

The CROSS was in town for their promotional tour in Malay-sia. Aside from holding a show-case at Berjaya Times Square Complex, the duo also participated in the ‘Save the Marine Turtles’ summer camp at the Berjaya Tioman Beach, Golf & Spa Resort on August 14.

The campaign was aimed at pledging support to preserve a cleaner habitat for the turtles and putting more effort into saving the endangered creatures. The CROSS released 20 marine turtles at the dive centre of the resort and raised funds that was donated to the Fishery Department of Pahang.
