AN EVENING IN COLMAR
A French marvel in the hills of Bukit Tinggi

Nestling in the wooded slopes of Berjaya Hills, 2600 ft above sea level, is a place that is bound to have you rubbing your eyes in disbelief. In a jiffy we were transported to Europe, more specifically France.
Colmar Tropicale is a hill resort with bold attempt to capture the charms of a 16th century French Colmar Village in Alsace, France and the result is spectacular. The French touch is all pervading here, be it the picturesque architecture of castles and chateaus, the street – side cafes, restaurants and shops, or the cobbled walkway. We began snapping away at every sight we found charming – the edifices, the water fountain, the parked carriage, the cuckoo clock tower and the wishing well.
There was nothing much left to do so we decided to dine at La Flamme Sidewalk Deli and ordered the Tarte Flambee pizza, which is an authentic Alsacian recipe and some crispy fried chickens wings generously dotted with ground pepper. The food, though slightly on the pricier side, was alright. Looking at the bulbs hanging all over, we deduced that it might be a sight to behold at night.
Like a tired mademoiselle dolled up in falsies, Colmar Tropicale’s charm evaporated before long and we just couldn’t wait to get back to ‘civilization’. This place is great for quick escapes from the city especially for those longing for a more laidback surrounding. If you desire to take that special someone on a unique jaunt that will be memorable, Colmar Tropicale would be apt. Otherwise, spending half a day would suffice.
Other places worth visiting in the vicinity include Japanese Village, Tatami Spa, Botanical Garden, Rabbit Park and Berjaya Hills Horse Trails. Entry fee to Colmar Tropicale is priced at RM10 per adult and RM8 per child (4-12 years old).
